Baylor Health Care System Adds Health Care Industry Selection Tool
in Quest for Hiring Top Health Care Professionals

Dallas, Texas - The Baylor Health Care System has partnered with a Dallas-based organizational psychology consulting firm to help Baylor better identify service-oriented health care professionals in their hiring efforts. SELECT for Health Care, a pre-employment assessment tool developed by Bigby, Havis &Associates, will help Baylor select nurses, allied health professionals, and other hospital staff who make taking care of people effectively a top priority.

"Implementing the Bigby, Havis customer service assessment tool will enhance our selection process and ensure that we are hiring quality staff," said Nancy Lloyd, Employment Manager for Baylor Human Resources. Baylor Health Care System, one of the nation's largest not-for-profit integrated health care providers, encompasses a network of hospitals, primary care centers and practices, community health centers and senior health centers. Located in Dallas, Baylor Health Care System owns, leases and affiliates with facilities in 19 cities throughout North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, and offers patients convenient access to health care in the Baylor tradition of compassion and healing.

SELECT for Health Care has been previously validated and is currently being used by several hospitals nationwide. The success of initial validation research at Baylor Richardson Medical Center, led Baylor to expand the study to allied health professionals and nurses in three additional hospitals. The validation research will quantify the effectiveness of SELECT for Health Care in identifying people in the Baylor System who are empathic, energetic, dependable, and stress tolerant, and who possess a positive attitude.

Bigby, Havis & Associates was selected for this project because of their experience designing effective customer-service pre-employment assessment tools for a variety of industries, including health care. The validation project is due to be completed by the end of August 1998 when Baylor will begin integrating the selection tool in their hiring process system-wide.
